Overview: A Rotatable Race Medal Built Around Motion
This customized rotatable metal race medal is designed for events where the award itself should feel like part of the experience. The hollow outer ring stays fixed while the inner disc spins freely, so a marathon finisher, a badminton champion or an archery titleholder can rotate the center to reveal sport silhouettes, the championship name and the event date. The medal is produced in-house from mold making through die-casting, polishing, electroplating and enamel filling, which keeps the rotating tolerance consistent from the first sample to the final bulk run.
Because the spinning disc is a moving part, the fit between the inner disc and the outer ring is the detail that decides whether a medal feels premium or loose. That fit is controlled at the die-casting and assembly stages rather than after plating, so the disc turns smoothly without rattling.
Materials and Structure
The body is die-cast zinc alloy, chosen for its ability to hold fine relief detail and its stable weight on a ribbon. The outer ring is hollowed to reduce visual bulk while keeping a substantial feel in the hand. Enamel is available in soft enamel, which leaves the metal lines raised for a classic dimensional look, or hard enamel, which is polished flat to the metal surface for a smooth, scratch-resistant face. Plating options include gold, silver, antique bronze, antique silver, black nickel and dual-tone finishes.
The inner disc is produced as a separate component, then assembled into the ring after plating and enamel curing. This multi-layer approach is what allows the hollow ring and the rotating center to coexist without compromising the artwork on either surface.
Performance and Wearability
Zinc alloy gives the medal enough mass to hang flat against a shirt or jersey instead of flipping, which matters for finish-line photos. The hollow ring keeps the overall weight manageable for a 50–80 mm medal, so it stays comfortable through a full awards ceremony. Hard enamel faces resist surface scratches better in daily display, while soft enamel keeps line work crisp on smaller 50–60 mm medals where fine detail is the priority.
Rotation smoothness is checked unit by unit before packing, and the ribbon attachment point is reinforced so the medal does not twist away from the wearer during a race or ceremony.
Customization Options
Customization covers artwork, shape, size, plating, enamel type, ribbon and packaging. Typical event medals run from 50 mm to 80 mm in diameter, with thickness adjusted to suit the rotating mechanism. Buyers can supply vector artwork, a sketch or a physical sample; the design team reviews the file and returns a digital proof showing the ring layout, the spinning disc artwork and the ribbon print before tooling begins. Ribbons are dye-sublimated with event colors, logos and dates, and can be finished with a standard or custom attachment.
Applications include marathon and road-race finisher medals, badminton and archery invitational tournaments, school sports meets, corporate wellness challenges and commemorative awards where the rotating element doubles as a talking point.
Quality Control and Production
Each order passes multi-point inspection before shipping: artwork alignment against the approved proof, plating adhesion, enamel fill consistency, rotation smoothness of the inner disc, and ribbon print registration. The self-owned factory covers approximately 6,000 m² and holds SEDEX 4P, ISO 9001 and Disney factory audit compliance, so export documentation and ethical-trade requirements are handled as part of the standard workflow. Sample lead time is generally 3–7 days, and MOQ starts from 100 pcs, which supports trial orders and multi-SKU event sets.
